The principle is basically to have three acres for each horse or mare. So if you have 20 horses, you should have a 60 acre land for them. Big farms, therefore, will have around 70 or more horses. For three horses or mares, you need one trainer. And so on.

However, the problem of space is not for you if you are not having a champion farm. For example, there are farms near Delhi, Pune and Bangalore which are not that big and which can be started more easily. Smaller farms now are at 30-40 acres. Newer entrants have included people like Sanjay Reddy, Nirmal Singh and Pawan Bhatia, who have farms on the outskirts of Bangalore. Small owners typically start off with 6-7 horses, and then build up if they strike gold at the races.The most famous turf clubs in India are the Bangalore Turf Club, The Hyderabad Race Club, Hyderabad, The Royal Calcutta Turf Club, Kolkata , The Royal Western India Turf Club, Mumbai and the Madras Race Club, Chennai.
